Capturing the Essence of “Snowman” – A Morning at Bembridge Harbour
As a photographer, some moments stick with you, and for me, one such moment unfolded at Bembridge Harbour. For weeks, I had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to capture the essence of a little fishing boat named “Snowman.” This particular morning, the atmosphere was thick with mist, creating a magical and somewhat mysterious backdrop for my photography.
When I arrived at the harbour, I was initially greeted by a blanket of fog so dense that I couldn’t see a single boat. Disappointment washed over me, but I refused to give up. Instead, I decided to head to Culver Down, hoping to rise above the fog and perhaps find a clearer view. However, on my way back, I felt an irresistible pull to stop by Bembridge Harbour one more time to check on “Snowman.”
To my delight, as I pulled up, I caught a glimpse of “Snowman” peeking through the mist. The scene was ethereal, with the boat seemingly floating in a dreamlike haze. I knew I had to act fast; the mist was shifting, and it looked as if “Snowman” was about to disappear again. I jumped out of the car and raced to the edge of the water, heart pounding with excitement.
Within seconds of reaching the water’s edge, the mist began to envelop “Snowman” once more, and just like that, it vanished from sight. I snapped away, capturing the fleeting moment, the serene ambience, and the tranquil beauty of the harbour. The photos I took that morning felt special; they were infused with the spirit of the moment, showcasing not just the boat but the enchanting atmosphere that only a misty dawn can provide.
Since that morning, I’ve captured a few more images of “Snowman,” but none quite compare to that magical experience. Bembridge Harbour has become one of my favourite places to photograph, especially in the early mornings. There’s always something different waiting to be discovered, and its proximity—only five minutes from my home—makes it an ideal spot for my photography adventures.
This experience is a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful moments happen when you least expect them. Whether it’s the tranquillity of a misty morning or the thrill of capturing a fleeting scene, these are the experiences that make photography so rewarding. If you find yourself on the Isle of Wight, I highly recommend visiting Bembridge Harbour; you never know what you might encounter.
Stay tuned for more of my photography adventures, and remember to seize those fleeting moments—they just might turn into your favourite memories!
